Richard Platz Obituary
Richard Jeffrey Platz, 73, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020. Richard was born October 25, 1946 to the late Rudolph and Evelyn Platz. Loving husband of Barbara (Vargo) Platz; caring father of Jeffrey (Donna) Platz, Christopher Platz, Paulette (Rickey) Watson and Jonathan (Amy) Platz; special grandfather of Logan, Daiton, Ivey, Allisa, Allison, Mason, Austin and Evan; great grandfather of Wayne Thomas.
Richard proudly served his country as a soldier in the United States Army. He was very proud of his Air Force military family; Jeff and Donna retired, Logan in Korea, Daiton at Hill AFB, Christopher at Selfridge, and Rickey retired.
Richard retired from Sterling Heights High School where he was a Special Education Consultant. He had been a director for Friends of Macomb Orchard Trail. Richard was active in fundraising for "Just for Kids" while he was at Sterling Heights High School. He was the guardian to a special needs student, Joseph Carpenter, for 20 years, helping him get his Boy Scout Eagle Award and up until a couple years ago was actively involved with Boy Scout Troop #485 of Armada. Richard also sponsored individual children worldwide for over 30 years to provide food, education and medical care through Christian Foundation for Children & Aging now called Unbound.
Memorial donations may be made to Michigan Parkinson's Foundation, 30400 Telegraph Rd. # 150, Bingham Farms, MI 48025.
