Harry Noteboom Obituary

Born to Gustaff and Erma (re: VanCanneyt) Noteboom April 7, 1919. His original name was Henry; he did not like Henry and preferred Harry.

He attended St. Louis Catholic school thru the 8th grade; when he quit school to work with his father on their dairy farm. Dad was dyslectic and had trouble reading, at that time the education system did not know how to deal with it! His nickname to some was Gus and his dad called him Kingfish. He lost his left eye when he was around 18 but that really never seemed to affect him.

Around 1940 he and his brother Albert took over the family farm and worked it very successfully till around 1956 when Albert bought a farm in the UP near Cooks, Mich. Harry kept working the original farm till '58 when Gustaaf sold it forcing dad to either buy another farm or quit---he quit. He ended up working for the Macomb County Road Commission as their master heavy equipment mechanic till retiring.

On April 7, 1942 he married Shirley Frede. The marriage lasted 69 years when mom passed away in June 2011; she was 88. From '42-'92 Harry and Shirley lived on M-59/Hall Road adjacent to where the original farm was. Half the house was the ice house from the farm; it was moved to it's final spot in the early '40's where it was expanded into a house/home. Finally demolished in '92 for the expansion of M-59. It was insulated with the original saw dust that was part of the ice house. When Shirley saw the name Henry on the marriage license she decided she knew Harry but not Henry so his name was official changed.

They had two sons, Jim born 10/3/44 and Ed born 10/20/48. Ed passed in Dec of 2006 at age 58 from cancer. Jim and Cheryl (re: Lievens) have been married 51 years and primarily reside in Montrose, Colorado. Harry has three grand children: Anita (Ed and Sharon re: Reynolds), Gina and Matt (Jim and Cheryl). One great grandson (Anthony Howes / Gina) and two great-great grandchildren,

After mom died he stayed by himself in their house in Richmond, Mi. till the fall of '14 when he moved in with Gina and her husband Steve, During the winters of '15-'16 and '16-'17 he came to Ariz. and stayed with Cheryl and I,

Harry passed in the AM on 2/18/18 at the age of 98. He was the last of Gustaaf and Erma's nine children.

Rest in peace Dad!
