Norbert Charles Singer, age 87 of Richmond died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in his home. He was born in Richmond, Michigan on October 20, 1921 to the late William and Catherine (Nolan) Singer. He married Adaline Gohlke in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Richmond on June 25, 1988. Norbert was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and served his country in the United States Army. He was a dispatcher at Willow Run and talked each day to Col. Charles Lindberg on Col. Lindberg's way home. He was a radio operator on both the Benson and the Henry Ford lake freighters. He was an amateur radio operator with the call letters W8ZJJ and worked as a carpenter with his father and brother building many houses in Richmond, and was a fifty year member of the Carpenters Union Local 687. Norbert is survived by his wife Adaline of twenty years, brother William (Caroline) Singer of Columbus Twp., sister Virginia (Archie) Kammer of St. Clair, four nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many cousins and good friends. A funeral Mass will be said Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Richmond. Fr. Joseph Plawecki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery, Richmond. George Fealko, Albert Collins, Paul Robertson, Charles Singer, Fred Nolan, and Stanley Morris will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Saturday from 9 to 9:30 in the church. A rosary will be said Friday at 7:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations are directed to St. Augustine Catholic Church - Capital Campaign.
