Janice Elizabeth Popke, 87, of St. Clair went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 29, 2024. Though our hearts are deeply saddened, we receive comfort from the words of our Lord, who says to us: “I am the resurrection and the Life.” These words give us encouragement, knowing that one who has faith in the Lord, will live with Him throughout eternity. Janice was born on September 11, 1937 to the late Sydney and Gertrude Karsney. She married Orville E. Popke on May 22, 1959 at Charity Lutheran Church in Detroit Michigan. Orville and Janice enjoyed cruising and traveling together throughout their marriage. They were lifelong members of the Lutheran church, demonstrating their love of the Lord through their dedication to Lutheran Education. Because of their commitment and sacrifices, their children were able to attend Lutheran Schools from Kindergarten through College; where the girls met their husbands. Orville and Janice’s legacy of faith has been carried on to their grandchildren, who also attended Lutheran Schools and serve the Lutheran Church in varying capacities. Janice also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and sewing. Janice is survived by her daughters Loren (Dennis) Sheppard and Carol (Rev. Peter C.) Marcis; Grandchildren Molly (Rev. David) Bergelin, Erin Marcis, and Sean (Fiona) Sheppard; and Great-Grandchildren Seamus and Expected Baby Sheppard, and Christian Bergelin. She is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Orville; Sister, Karen Karsney; Sister-in-Law, Hazel Janush; and her mother and father. To the praise and glory of her Lord, we celebrate Janice’s new life and rejoice in her victory through Christ over death. “For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
