Irene F. Samolej

IRENE FRANCES SAMOLEJ age 86, a lifelong resident of Richmond died Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Samolej was born April 30, 1923 in Columbus Township Michigan to the late Walter and Rose (Malczewski) Lukomski. She married Mieceslaus (Michael) Samolej in Columbus Township on June 17, 1944. Mr. Samolej died March 17, 2003. Irene was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 525 in Smith Creek. She was a former member of the Richmond Lioness Club. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Mitchell and Mary of Richmond, Thomas and Vicki of Casco, daughter-in-law, Pamela Samolej all of Richmond, grandchildren, Gary (Jamie), Jeffery (Krystal), Jason (Nicole), Matthew (Johnna), Scott and Heather Samolej and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, Nicholas, Olivia, Summer and Logan Samolej and Alyssa Chambers. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her sons, Gary in 1968 and James on January 29, 2009 and siblings, Joseph and Johnny Lukomski, Mary Bronkowski, Stella Wronski, Charlotte Leonard, Bernice Cudnik and Sophie, Florence and Clara Lukomski. A funeral Mass will be on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 10:00am at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond. Reverend Joseph Plawecki, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Richmond. Visiting will be Saturday from 6 to 8pm, Sunday from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Monday from 9:30 to 10am in the church. A Rosary will be recited in the funeral home on Sunday at 6:30pm. Memorial contributions are suggested for the American Legion Post 525 or the St. Augustine Window Fund.
