HELEN V. STEMPIN 86 of Richmond died Saturday, January 30, 2010 in her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Stempin was born December 30, 1923 in Hamtramck, Michigan to the late Stanley and Sophie (Dudczinski) Palka. She married Chester Stempin in 1945. Helen graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit and retired as the personnel director for Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, reading and especially the company of her "little dogs". She is survived by her son, Paul Stempin of Richmond, daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Ronald Wollen of St. Clair, sisters, Patricia Manchik of Lenox and Barbara (Charles) Treutle of Riley and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Chester, sisters, Mary Matuszewski, Irene Krause, Dolores Patelczik and Stella Palka and son-in-law, Ted Mazur. A funeral Mass will be Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 10:30am in St. Augustine Catholic Church. Reverend Joseph Plawecki, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visiting will be on Tuesday, from 3 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Blue Water Area Humane Society.
