EVA STECKER 97 a sixty-five year resident of Richmond died Sunday, November 19, 2006 in her home. Mrs. Stecker was born October 17, 1909 in Akron, Ohio to the late Michael and Katherine (Toth) Grnya. She married William Stecker in Saginaw, Michigan on August 25, 1934. Mr. Stecker died December 12, 1977. Eva was a member of the Farm Bureau and a longtime active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Richmond where she served as Past president of the Lutheran Ladies Auxiliary, Lutheran Ladies Aide and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. For many years she was the chairperson of the Lutheran Special Family Services and the Annual Chicken Dinners. She enjoyed crocheting, working in her flower beds and visiting the residents of Medilodge in Richmond. Over the years she crocheted over a hundred baby layettes for the Children and Family Services. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Laidlaw of Port Huron, sister, Miss Katherine Grnya of Tawas City, sister-in-law, Gertrude (the late David) Stecker of Sebewaing, grandchildren, Lawrence W. Laidlaw of Marysville, Laurel S. Laidlaw of Washington, DC., and Linda A. Laidlaw of Channelview, Texas and great-grandson, Alex L. Laidlaw of Marysville, dear friends, Carl and Sharon Christensen and family and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings. A funeral service will be Monday at 11:00am in St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Reverends Gerhardt Doroh and Randy Lett will officiate. Special friends and neighbors, Carl Christiansen, Robert Christiansen, George Kuzmenko, Nelson Leach, Kenneth Krause and David Smith will act as pallbearers. Gordon Furestenau and Doyle Mickelson will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. Visiting will be Sunday from 2 to 8pm in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Monday from 10 to 11am in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Children and Family Services.
