Elmer Rhein
February 16, 1920 — March 20, 2007
Elmer M. Rhein, 87 of Chesterfield died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in his home after a brief illness. He was born February 16, 1920 to the late Walter and Anna (Jahn) Rhein. He married Marie Malburg in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Utica on November 15, 1947. Elmer retired in 1985 from Chippewa Valley Schools where he worked in grounds maintenance. Mr. Rhein attended St. Augustine Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed gardening, farming, and mostly spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Marie, children: Shirley Rhein of Almont, Kathy (Randy) Patterson of Shelby Twp., Hank (Mary) Rhein of Armada, Theresa (Chris) Best of Bevercreek, Ohio, Elaine Rhein of Clinton Twp. and Marv (Lisa) Rhein of Chesterfield, siblings: Marcella Wasmund, Norbert Rhein, Elsie Fowler, Joe (Sharon) Rhein, Virginia DeCock, Mary Ann (Frank) Cumper and Howard Rhein, twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and In-laws Margie Rhein, Norbert (Margaret) Malburg, Ray (Barbara) Malburg, Clarence (Mary Ellen) Malburg, and Dorothy (Ray) Muylaert, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Rhein was preceded in death by his daughter Janice Rhein, brother Harold Rhein, and sister Eleanor Theut. A funeral Mass will be said Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 10:30am in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Richmond. Rev. James Commyn will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 2 to 9 in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond and Saturday from 10 to 10:30 in the church. A scripture service will be held on Friday at 5 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Augustine Building Fund, Janice Rhein Scholarship Fund, or Hospice of Michigan.
