SENIOR MASTER SERGEANT CECIL EDWIN GODBEY age 80 of Lenox Twp., previously of Garden City of 34 years, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Godbey was born July 8, 1930 in Windgrove, W. VA. to the late Homer and Leona (Schewbury) Godbey. Cecil graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1948 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aircraft mechanic. He met Marjorie Schuster while stationed at Otis Air Force Base in 1950. They were married at Falmouth MA on May 10, 1951. Of this union they had three sons, Donald, Steven and James. Marjorie died July 20, 1994. Cecil traveled all over the Far East during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam era. He retired July 31, 1969 after serving 21 years, 3 months and 14 days. Cecil then worked at Approved Aircraft Accessories in Romulus, MI. for 16 years and then on to Chrysler Pentas Star Aviation at Willow Run, retiring again on April 31, 1991. Cecil was a life member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed competitive pistol and rifle shooting. He was an expert marksman and held many trophies. He also was a licensed A & P and commercial and instrument rated pilot. He enjoyed flying his Piper PA28-150 as well as bowling, hunting and automotive repair. In April of 1996 Cecil met Barbara Redlawsk thru the dating service "Together". They were married on August 29, 1998 at St. John Lutheran Church in New Haven. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons, Donald (Linda) Godbey of Westland and James (Dianna Roberts) Godbey of Detroit, grandchildren, Eric (Corissa) Godbey, Donald (Michele) Godbey and Nicole Roberts, stepchildren, Mark (Robin) Redlawsk, Jeffrey (Diana) Redlawsk, Martin (Kristina) Redlawsk and Jennifer (Michael) Vennard, step-grandchildren, Jillian Wilcox, Lindsay Parslow, Morgan Myers, Megan May, Madelyn, Michael and Joseph Vennard, and Darren, Brenden and Noah Redlawsk, three great-grandchildren and siblings, Lillian Lawson, Alice Matusik, Homer Godbey, Leona Columbo, Jimmy Godbey and Mary Sue Godbey. In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Godbey on September 15, 2010, and his brother Robert in January of 2010 and half sister, Lillian Godbey. A funeral service was Friday, November 5, 2010 in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans. Reverends, Gerhardt Doroh and Randy Lett, pastors of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Richmond officiated. Burial was Monday, November 8, 2010 in the Mount Hope Memorial Gardens in Livonia, MI. under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force Color Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were directed to the St. Peter Lutheran School for the children or the wishes of the family.
