Mary Szczerbinski Obituary

Mary J. Szczerbinski, 58, of Richmond, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, November 29, 2019. Mary was born October 16, 1961 to the late Marceli and Alfreda Marecki. Beloved wife of Gerard Szczerbinski; cherished mother of Monica (John) Morgan, Katherine (Kasia) (John Ransford) Szczerbinski and Victoria Szczerbinski; caring sister of Richard and Stanley (Katherine) Marecki, Also, survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Marecki and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Preceded in death by her brother, Robert Marecki and sister-in-law, Suzanne Marecki.
Mary was a Pharmacist for 32 years at St. John Hospital and spent a majority of her practice in the Critical Care Pharmacy serving the numerous ICU units, Pediatrics, along with Labor and
Delivery. She was an active member of the Michigan Pharmacist Association and loved to mentor new pharmacy residents that did their rotations at the hospital.
Mary exuded a love for her Polish heritage that can be seen in her upbringing and in her daughters. She began Polish folk dancing at a young age and graduated from Polish Women's Alliance (PWA) Zamek Dance Ensemble ('79). She continued to stay active in PWA and joined the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America in order for her daughters to join a local Polish folk-dance group. Mary put in over 26 years of service as a dance mom, not only to her daughters, but to countless other children within the Mala Polska Folk Ensemble and Zajaczek Dance Ensemble. Aside from dancing, Mary was also fluent in the Polish language and maintained close ties with her family in Poland, visiting whenever she could.
Mary's other hobbies included, but were not limited to: singing in choirs at Transfiguration, St. Albertus and St. Josaphat; being a cantor at St. Augustine; going to the casino; cheering for her beloved Lions, Tigers and Red Wings; playing cards; cooking up a traditional Polish meal or her famous lasagna; traveling much of North America and Europe; but especially spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with a Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2019 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 5:00 p.m. at the Rewalt-Peshek Funeral Home, 68655 Stoecker Lane, Richmond, MI 48062. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 68035 Main St, Richmond, MI 48062.
