Kathleen "Kathie" Code

KATHLEEN "KATHIE" CODE 72 of Washington Township, formerly of Grosse Pointe, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Kathie was born April 20, 1941 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Nelson and Tessa (O'Brien) Hunter. She graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1959 where she was a member of the "Dolphins" a synchronized swim team, attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Ann Arbor in 1963. She married Carl Code in Pontiac on August 17, 1963. Kathie worked for a short time at Pontiac General Hospital before devoting her life to her husband and children. She was a member of the Old Club Ladies League on Harsen's Island. Kathie was an avid reader and enjoyed swimming, exercising, boating and family vacations. While living in Grosse Pointe, she enjoyed her daily "walking group" and New Friends & Neighbors girl pals. She is survived by her husband Carl, children; Cynthia Code of Littleton, CO and Carl "Chip" (Beth) Code of Washington Twp, grandchildren; Keelin, Tessa, Madeline and Colin Code and Jennifer Naar and brothers; Daniel (Mary) Hunter of Ann Arbor and Thomas Hunter of Clarkston. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Gerry Hunter. Visitation and a memorial service will be on Sunday, April 27, 2014 starting at 11:00am with the memorial service at 12 noon at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, 788 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Shores, MI. 48236 followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers the family strongly urges memorial contributions be directed in memory of Grandma Kathie to benefit: Denver Academy, 4400 East Iliff Avenue, Denver, CO, a special needs school where granddaughter Jennifer attends, or St. Baldricks Foundation, www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/1314/2014 which benefits children with cancer which the Code family supports.
