JAMES GERALD REWALT age 71 of Ray, Michigan, formerly of Richmond died Monday, January 2, 2017. Jim was born January 21, 1945 in Mount Clemens, MI to the late Homer and Anna Mae (Keegan) Rewalt. He graduated from St. Augustine Catholic High School in Richmond in 1962 and earned his associates degree from St. Clair County Community College. Jim served with the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam Era. He married Sandra Zochowski Joseph in Mount Clemens on May 27, 1972. He worked as a maintenance welder at Pontiac Motors for forty-three years retiring at the end of 2006. In 1985 Jim and Sandi purchased the Conger Funeral Home in Richmond and operated it as Rewalt Funeral Home until November 2015 where he assumed the role as the "parking lot Nazi". Jim was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2667 in Richmond and a forty year member of the Romeo and Richmond Lions Club. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Service award in 2014. Jim enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, golfing, traveling, going to "deer camp" without a gun and playing euchre, all rewarded with a glass of Boones Farm Sangria at the end of the day. Although it was short lived, he really enjoyed his new condo on the beach in Pompano Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife, Sandi; his children: Joseph and Wendy Joseph of Davisburg, Jason and Jeanne Rewalt of Richmond and Erin and Molly Creamer Rewalt of Hoboken, NJ; his grandchildren: Jordan and Garrett Joseph, Reagan and Lauren Rewalt and Briggs Creamer-Rewalt; his brothers: Thomas and Linda Rewalt of Macomb Twp., Donald and Peggy Rewalt of Casco and Ronald and Nancy Rewalt of Casco; his sister-in-law, Kay Rewalt of Washington, MI; mother-in-law, Geraldine Zochowski of Richmond; brother-in-law, Chester and Jan Lee Zochowski of Ray; sisters-in-law: Babe (Bob White) Zochowski of East China and Kellie and John Meinecke of Millington. He was preceded in death by his brother John Rewalt in 2011, father-in-law Frank Zochowski and brother-in-law Frank Zochowski Jr. A funeral Mass will be on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00pm at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond followed by a celebration of Jim's life from 3:30 to 9:00pm at the Maniaci Banquet Center in Richmond.
