Beamus Bentley Obituary

BEAMUS CALEB BENTLEY age 106 a lifelong resident of Richmond died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Leisure Manor of Richmond where he was loved by residents as well as staff for the past year. He was born February 7, 1908 in Richmond to the late Arthur and Elsie (Wolverton) Bentley. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1928 and attended Clery College in Ypsilanti. He married his beloved Loretta Schwark in Toledo, Ohio on September 22, 1930. Mrs. Bentley died July 15, 1991. Known by many as "Benny", "Ben", "B.C.", "Grampa B" and by great-grandchildren as "B" was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Richmond for over seventy-five years and was the oldest living member of the congregation. On January 24, 2013 he was presented with his 60 year membership pin in a ceremony by the Richmond Masonic Lodge and on September 8th of that same year he was honored and proud to be the Grand Marshall of the Richmond Good Old Days Parade celebrating its' 50th year. Bennie will be remembered as a kind, caring, generous man with a deep love for his family who often said he was proud to be "the last nut hanging on the family tree". He enjoyed a good cigar, tinkering with his many cars (51 to be exact) and his old radios. He was a member of the Richmond Historical Society and was able to offer a lot of input. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Donna and Donald Cockerill of Richmond, granddaughters; Tammy Rzeszut of Clinton Twp., LuAnne "Charlie" St. John of Memphis and Karen (Erik) Koch of Macomb and great-grandchildren; Kristy and Dan Rzeszut, Andrew, Michael and Matthew St. John and Kyle and Brendan Koch. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his siblings; Deliah Stroh, Edna Willman and Erwin Bentley. A funeral service will be on Monday, March 10th at 10:00am in Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. Reverend Dr. Julie Kilmer will officiate. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 8pm and Monday from 9 to 10:00am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Richmond Historical society or to F.U.C.C.
